Defendants
A defendant is the individual, group, or entity that is being accused or charged in a legal case. The term applies in both criminal and civil cases.

Criminal case. The defendant is the person charged with committing a crime. The prosecution, typically representing the state, brings charges against them.

Civil case. The defendant is the person or entity being sued by the plaintiff for damages, break of contract, or other legal disputes.
