How do I do expungements?

Defendants

Issue

I need to enter an expungement. How do I do that?

Explanation

An expungement is the legal process of erasing or sealing a criminal record from public view. When a record is expunged, it is as if the offense never occurred, and the person can legally state that they were not convicted of the crime in most situations.

Solution

To fix this issue,

  • add the expunged record to Modify Existing Defendants. You can skip this step if the "expunged" defendant record already exists.

  • add the expunged record to the defendant. (Defendants > Modify Existing Defendants)

  • update the defendant number attached to the case. (Cases > Modify Existing Cases)

  • run Recalculate to update the expunged defendant record with the expunged case. (Organization > Recalculate)
