Issue

When I import meter reads, I get an error message that says invalid reading date. How do I fix it?

Explanation

This happens when the import file

does not include the Read Date variable.
has a meter read with a read date that is blank or null.
has a meter read with an invalid read date. The read date should be eight digits (MM/DD/YYYY). An invalid read date has less than seven digits or more than eight digits.

When the meter read is invalid, the meter read is not imported.

Solution

To fix this error, try these troubleshooting steps.

If the Read Date variable is missing from the import file, add the Read Date variable to the import file.

If you're using Connect to create the electronic meter reading file, add the Read Date variable to the electronic reading format. (Organization > Electronic Reading Format)
If you're using another application to create the electronic meter reading file, you'll want to use that application to update the electronic reading format that application uses to create the import file.

If the import file has a meter read with a read date that is blank or null, you can

enter the meter read manually. (Meters > Enter Meter Readings)
fix the meter read date in the import file and re-import meter reads. You can use a text editor to open the import file, enter the correct meter read date, and save your changes. When you're done, run Import Meter Readings again to import the meter reads with read dates that are blank or null.

If the import file has a meter read with an invalid read date, you can

enter the meter read manually. (Meters > Enter Meter Readings)
fix the meter read date in the import file and re-import meter reads. You can use a text editor to open the import file, enter the correct meter read date... make sure it is formatted using MM/DD/YYYY, and save your changes. A valid read date is eight digits. When you're done, run Import Meter Readings again to import the meter reads with read dates that are blank or null.
