How do I replace a meter?

Remove a meter from a customer and install a new meter to replace it. If you have already auto-billed the customer, you'll also need to replace the customer's auto-billing.

Before you get started

  • You'll need the meter read on the meter being replaced.

Replacing a meter

1. Open Connect Utility Management > Meters > Enter Meter Activity.

2. Enter a Customer and then press Enter.

This is the customer with the meter that you want to replace.

3. Use the Action Code menu to select Electric Replace Reading.

4. Press Enter.

The Enter Meter Activity form expands to include new fields.

5. Enter the Removal Reading.

This is the meter reading on the meter at the time of removal.

6. Enter the Usage.

You can skip this field in usage since the last meter read is zero.

7. Enter the New Meter ID.

This is the meter ID of the meter that will replace the old meter.

When you press Enter, the system will validate the meter ID. If you're using an existing meter ID, the system will fill in the remaining fields on the Enter Meter Activity form.

Are you using a new meter ID?

  • Yes, I'm using a new meter ID. Click Yes to create a new meter record and then fill in the remaining fields to finish setting up the new meter.

  • No, I'm using the meter ID from an existing meter. Check the meter ID to make sure it is entered correctly.

8. Press Enter to move through the remaining fields.

The old meter is removed and the new meter is installed. If you've already auto-billed the customer, you'll need to run auto-billing again to recalculate the billing. See the help topic titled  How do I auto-bill a single customer?
