How do I add a shift?
Shifts
Shift work refers to any work schedule that falls outside the traditional office hours. Shift work can include evening, night, and early morning shifts. Shift work may also include rotating schedules.
Here are a few examples.
-
Continuous (24 hours/day, 7 days a week)
-
Discontinuous (24 hours/day, 5 days a week - 3 shift systems)
-
Day/Afternoon only (2 shift system)
-
Fixed shifts (typically 5 days/week)
-
Rotating shifts (almost all 7 days rosters)
-
Irregular hours
-
Early start or graveyard shifts
You can set up Connect Payroll to calculate payroll checks for employees who work a shift instead of normal office hours. The Shift table stores the days in the shift and the number of hours the shift employee is expected to work each day. When you calculate benefits or checks, Connect will use the time entry from the shift schedule to calculate the employee and employer amounts. In version 2021.11 or later, you do not need to manually update the shift beginning dates. The shift beginning updates will be updated when you print the Shift report or run the Update Payroll routine.
If you need assistance, contact customer service at (800) 228-9851.

Adding a shift to an employee position
The shift is linked to the employee position, which you can update using Modify Existing Employees in the Connect Timekeeping. Unlike most things that you can update in Connect Timekeeping or Connect Payroll, you can only update the shift that's tied to an employee position in the Connect Timkeeping application. Open Modify Existing Employees and then navigate to the Positions tab > Positions tab. Use the Shift box to assign a shift to the employee position. More
