States

In payroll, the state refers to the state where the employee is employed. The state determines the state withholding tax, employment regulations, and reporting requirements for taxing agencies, health insurance, and benefits. In most organizations, the employees will work in the same state. But some organizations may have employees who work in more than one state and who will need to comply with the different reporting requirements.

The States table refers to the state where your employees are employed in. Selecting the state will also select the reports that are specifically formatted for it, such as, the state retirement report, state combined wage list, state unemployment tax report, state withholding report, and workers compensation report. The state reports have been set up to comply with the state's requirements for submitting printed and electronic reports.
