Electronic file formats

An electronic file format is a standardized way of organizing and encoding data in a digital file. Electronic file formats are used to store, transmit, and display information in a consistent and structured manner. Different file formats are designed for different types of data and applications, and each format has its own specifications and features.

In Payroll, common electronic file formats include text formats, such as txt, csv, and PDF, which are used for storing and transmitting plain text or tabular data. The electronic file format may be different for different banks, federal or state taxing agencies, and third-party institutions for filing benefits.
