How do I add/remove an attorney?

Use Attorneys to record the name, contact information, and attorney number for each attorney who is involved in a case.

Add an attorney

Create a new record for an attorney.

Do this...

1. Open Connect Court Management > Organization > Attorneys.

2. Click New (CTRL+N).

3. Fill in the attorney properties.

4. Click Save (CTRL+S).

The attorney is saved.

 

Add an attorney to a case

Use the options on the Case tab in Setup New Cases or Modify Existing Cases to add an attorney to a case. Navigate to the Case tab > Case subtab. At the bottom of the Case subtab you will find the fields for Prosecuting Attorney and Defending Attorney.

 

 

Click the menu button to view additional options for the field. A field level menu shows additional options that are specific to the selected field.

 

Change an attorney

The attorney records are stored in Organization > Attorneys. If you need to update the contact information, attorney ID, or type use Organization > Attorney to edit the attorney's record.

Do this...

1. Open Connect Court Management > Organization > Attorneys.

2. Use the Lookup bar to enter an attorney's name. Press Enter.

3. Now, update the attorney record.

4. Click Save (CTRL+S).

The updated record is saved.

 

Delete an attorney

Warning! Do not delete attorney records that are linked to cases.

Do this...

1. Open Connect Court Management > Organization > Attorneys.

2. Use the Lookup bar to enter an attorney's name. Press Enter.

3. Click Delete (CTRL+D).

The attorney is deleted.

 

Options

Attorney ID

The attorney ID is the number assigned to the attorney by the state bar. You can also enter another identification number if the state bar number is not available.  

Type

The attorney type defines the attorney's responsibilities as defending, prosecuting, or both. The defending attorney represents a defendant during trial. The prosecuting attorney represents the party filing the complaint. While both refers to an attorney who functions as a prosecuting or defending attorney depending on the case.

Note: Defending attorneys will not be included in the list of Prosecuting Attorneys and prosecuting attorneys will not be listed in the list of Defending Attorneys.

What is the attorney type?

  • This attorney represents the defendant. Use Type to select Defending.

  • This attorney represents the plaintiff. Use Type to select Prosecuting.

  • This attorney represents the defendant/plaintiff depending on the case. Use Type to select Both.
