How do I enter a trust disposition?

When you know what happened to the trust, use a trust disposition to record the final settlement. A trust disposition records the final settlement of the cash trust or bond trust. The Trust Disposition Entry screen displays all existing trusts in a grid.

Disposing a cash trust

Follow these instructions to enter a cash trust.

Do this...

1. Open Connect Court Management > Cases > Enter Trust Dispositions.

2. Use the Lookup bar to enter a case number. Press Enter.

3. Click to select a trust from the Existing Trusts grid.

4. How do you want to dispose the trust?

I want to apply the cash trust to the trust balance. Use the Type drop-down list to select Apply.
I want to refund the cash trust to the grantor. Use the Type drop-down list to select Refund.
I want to forfeit the cash trust (for example, because the defendant failed to appear). Use the Type drop-down list to select Forfeiture.
I want to transfer the cash trust to another case. Use the Type drop-down list to select Transfer. Next, select the case number from the Transfer To field that will receive the transferred trust. The Transfer To field displays only cases that belong to the current defendant.

5. Enter the trust disposition code and amount.

6. Does the trust balance equal zero?

Yes, the trust balance equals zero. Save the transaction. You're done.
No, the trust balance does not equal zero. Adjust the disposition amount to make the trust balance equal zero. Then, save the transaction.

Note: You can save the transaction when the trust balance does not equal zero; however, you will need to return later to specify what happened to the remaining amount. If you wish to remove the trust from the list of outstanding trusts, the trust balance must equal zero.

Disposing a bond trust

Use these instructions to dispose a bond trust.

Do this...

1. Open Connect Court Management > Cases > Enter Trust Dispositions.

2. Use the Lookup bar to enter a case number. Press Enter.

3. Click to select a bond trust from the Existing Trusts grid.

4. How do you want to dispose the bond trust?

I want to forfeit the bond trust because the defendant failed to appear. Use the Type drop-down list to select FTA.
I want to clear the bond trust. Use the Type drop-down list to select Clear.

5. Enter the trust disposition code and amount.

6. Does the trust balance equal zero?

Yes, the trust balance equals zero. Save the transaction. You're done.
No, the trust balance does not equal zero. Adjust the disposition amount to make the trust balance equal zero. Then, save the transaction.
