How do I enter a trust disposition?

A trust is an agreement to guarantee an defendant's appearance in court. When money is paid as the guarantee, you create a cash trust. On the other hand, it's a bond trust when a written promise of surety is issued instead of a cash payment. After a trust is recorded, use Enter Trust Dispositions to record the method of discarding the trust.

Record the method of discarding the trust.

Do this...

1. Open Connect Court Management > Cases > Enter Trust Dispositions.

2. Use the Lookup bar to enter a case number. Press Enter.

3. Fill in the options on the form. Use the sections in this help topic to fill in each field. The fields are listed in alphabetical order.

4. Click the Save button.

The trust disposition is saved.

 

Change a trust disposition

You can add or delete trust dispositions, but editing is not allowed. If you need to edit a trust disposition, begin by deleting the trust disposition, then add a new trust disposition with the updated information.

 

Delete a trust disposition

Remove a trust disposition from a case.

Do this...

1. Open Connect Court Management > Cases > Enter Trust Dispositions.

2. Use the Lookup bar to enter a case number. Press Enter.

3. Use the grid on  the Trusts tab to select a reference number. The trust properties will display on the subtabs.

4. Use the grid on  the Trusts tab to select a reference number. The trust dispositions created for the trust display in the grid at the bottom of the Dispositions tab, like this...

 

 

5. Click the Down button, then select Delete Trust Disposition.

The trust disposition is deleted.

 

Set up cash trust and bond trust defaults

Use the cash trust and bond trust defaults to select the default value for the following fields.

Cash trust defaults:

  • Set up code

  • Apply code

  • Refund code

  • Forfeiture code

  • Transfer code

Bond trust defaults:

  • Set up code

  • FTA (Failure to Appear) code

  • Clear code

  • Additional fields

How do I change the default field value?

1. Click Options (F12).

2. Click the Trusts tab.

3. Enter the default values for each field.

 

Options

Amount

Use Amount to enter the disposed amount.

Code

The code is a series of numbers or characters the application uses to make it easier to enter offenses, violations, dispositions, comments, and so on. For example, 1000 (Speeding Violation), 18656 (Failure to Obey Rules of the Road), OF (Original Offense), OS (Offense Surcharge, PARK (Parking Ticket), etc. Use the Code field to enter a code for disposing the trust.

Date

The Date is the date the system will use to record the entry.

Description

A description is a word or phrase that describes the character or features of the record.

Do you want to use the default description?

  • Yes, I want to use the default description. Continue to the next field.

  • No, I want to use a different description. Click on the Description field, and then type in a new description.

Refund payee

A refund is the act of returning the trust amount to the bond issuer. Use the Refund Payee fields on the Dispositions tab to record the name and address of the individual or organization that will receive the refunded trust amount.

Transfer to

Transfer To allows you to assign the trust amount to a different case.

Type

A type defines the accounting behavior for the related transaction.

When money is paid as the guarantee, it's called a cash trust. On the other hand, it's a bond trust when a written promise of surety is issued instead of a cash payment. When the transaction type is bond, the fields will display the name and address of the person that paid the original bond amount. If the amount is returned to another party, you can enter the name and address of the person who was issued the check.

Cash refers to coins, currency, money orders, checks, and funds on deposit with financial institutions.
