How do I enter dispositions?

Cases

Use Enter Dispositions to record the final settlement, the outcome or final judgment, of a case.

Examples of dispositions:

  • Suspended

  • Fine

  • Dismissed

  • Guilty Finding

  • Guilty by Default

 

Important! Entering a plea is optional, but entering a disposition is mandatory. The application uses the disposition code to track statistics for state and federal reporting agencies.

Entering a disposition

Record the final settlement, the outcome or final judgment, of a case.

Do this...

1. Open Connect Court Management > Cases > Enter Dispositions.

2. Fill in the options on the form.

Important! Entering a plea is optional, but entering a disposition is mandatory. The application uses the disposition code to track statistics for state and federal reporting agencies. Do NOT close a case without entering a disposition.

3. Click the Save button.  

The disposition is saved.

 

Changing a disposition

Update the information on a saved disposition entry.

Do this...

1. Open Connect Court Management > Cases > Enter Dispositions.

2. Use the Lookup bar to enter a case number. Press Enter.

Note: The application should display the Dispositions tab.

3. Use the transaction grid on the Dispositions tab to select a disposition.

4. Click the Down button to display the menu with additional options.

5. Select Modify Sequence from the menu.

6. Now, you can edit the sequence properties.

The updated disposition is saved.

 

Deleting a disposition

Remove a disposition from a case.

Do this...

1. Open Connect Court Management > Cases > Enter Dispositions.

2. Use the Lookup bar to enter a case number. Press Enter.

3. Click the Dispositions tab.

4. Use the transaction grid on the Dispositions tab to select a disposition.

5. Click the Down button to display the menu with additional options.

6. Select Delete Sequence from the menu.

The disposition is deleted.

 

Warning: The case you are trying to edit has been modified by another user. Your changes will be lost.

This warning message displays when you make changes to a case that is being used by another user.

  • If you're entering a disposition, enter through the disposition fields again to save the disposition information.

  • If you're changing information or fields on the case, you will lose your changes and you'll need to re-enter the information.

Options

Action

The action refers to the tracking event that will happen next.

What do you want to do?

  • I want to change the follow up action. Use the transaction grid to select the follow up action. Click the Down button , next select Modify Sequence.

  • I want to delete the follow up action status. Use the transaction grid to select the follow up action. Click the Down button , next select Change Follow-up Action to Deleted. An X displays in the S (Status) column.  

  • I want to change the follow up action status to pending. Use the transaction grid to select the follow up action. Click the Down button , next select Change Follow-up Action to Pending.  

  • I want to change the follow up action status to completed. Use the transaction grid to select the follow up action. Click the Down button , next select Change Follow-up Action to Completed. A check mark displays in the S (Status) column.

Additional fields

If some of the fields that you need are missing from the Enter Dispositions screen, you can view the additional fields by selecting a line to edit and then clicking the Additional Fields button .

Amount

Use Amount to enter the disposition amount.

What is the disposition amount?

  • I want to add an amount. Enter an amount, then click Save (CTRL+S) to complete the entry.

  • I want to subtract an amount. The Code Type must be an Adjustment code type to enter a negative amount. Enter an amount, no minus sign is necessary. Adjustment codes automatically add a minus sign to the amount. Click Save (CTRL+S) to complete the entry.

Code

A code is a shorthand that allows you to enter a lengthy description using a few keystrokes. The code can be alphanumeric. One example of a code may include numbers assigned to violations, and there are many other examples.  

Requirements:

  • Code type is Adjustment, Close, Comment, Comment (disposition), Court cost, Fine, Fine (no surcharge), Plea, Schedule appointment, Surcharge (fixed amount), Surcharge (percentage), or Third party.

  • Inactive date must be less than or equal to the current system date.

Date

The Date is the date the system will use to record the transaction.

Description

A description is a word or phrase that describes the character or features of the record.

Do you want to use the default description?

  • Yes, I want to use the default description. Continue to the next field.

  • No, I want to use a different description. Click on the Description field, and then type in a new description.

Follow-up action

A follow-up action is an action or event that results from a previous action. Click Follow-up Actions  (Other > Follow-up Actions) to display the follow-up actions for the current case.  

 

Follow-up date

A follow-up refers to an action or event that results from a previous action. The follow-up date is the date when the follow-up action will occur.

Offense

An offense is a crime or punishable violation of law of any type or magnitude.

Sequence

In Court Management, a sequence is a number that is assigned to a disposition recorded on a case.

Save

Click the Save button to save the disposition entry. Now, the disposition displays in the transaction grid.

 

Warning: The case you are trying to edit has been modified by another user. Your changes will be lost."

This warning message displays when you open for editing a case that is already open for editing by another user.

  • If you are entering a disposition, press Enter to again move through the remaining disposition fields to save the disposition information.

  • If you are changing other information or fields on the case, you will lose your changes. You will need to verify that you are the only user editing the case and then re-enter the information.
