Error: Cannot delete record

Issue

I want to delete a category that I don't need anymore. When I click the Delete button, there's an error that says the record cannot be deleted. How do I delete the category?

Explanation

This warning displays when the category has been used to

set up a billing code.
create a deposit.
create an invoice detail.

The category cannot be deleted, but you can change the category status to inactive, which will

prevent users from assigning the category to new transactions.
stop the system from billing an amount.
not calculate penalties and tax for the category.
change the status for categories that reference the inactive category to inactive.
keep the category as a record in the Category table.

Solution

To change the category status to inactive, open the category record (Organization > Categories), and then remove the checkmark from the Active category checkbox. [More]
