1099 Forms

 

A 1099 is a tax document for reporting various types of income that are not wages, salaries, or tips. These forms are primarily issued to independent contractors, freelancers, and other self-employed individuals, as well as for certain other types of income. They are filed with the IRS and provided to the recipient to report taxable income. 

Common types of 1099 Forms include: 

  • 1099-NEC (Nonemployee Compensation) Report payments of $600 or more made to independent contractors or freelancers.

  • 1099-MISC (Miscellaneous Income) For various other types of payments, including rent, prizes, awards, and legal settlements. 

  • 1099-DIV (Dividends and Distributions) Reports dividends and distributions to investors. 

  • 1099-INT (Interest Income) Reports interest earned, typically from banks or financial institutions.

  • 1099-G (Government Payments) Used for unemployment compensation, state or local tax refunds, and other government payments. 

  • 1099-K (Payment Card and Third-Party Network Transactions) Reports income from credit card payments or third-party processors like PayPal or Venmo. 

  • 1099-R (Retirement and Retirement Plan Distributions) Reports distributions from pensions, IRAs, and other retirement accounts. 

  • 1099-S (Real Estate Transactions) Reports income from real estate sales.
