What is a surround character?

Report Export Options

A surround character is similar to a field delimiter but unlike a field delimiter, the surround character marks the beginning and end of a text field in an export file. The general rule of thumb for choosing the surround character is to pick a symbol that is not used in export file.

In this screen shot, the surround character is a quotation mark. See how the quotation mark appears the beginning and end of each text field?

Other symbols that are commonly used as a surround character include the quotation mark ("), comma (,), semicolon (;), or Tab.
